Arrange receiving and installation before shipping a server. A public datacenter address is not an approved delivery instruction. Get the destination, reference labels, receiving window and equipment requirements from the team handling your colocation order.
Confirm physical compatibility
Send the chassis model, rack-unit height, depth, weight and rail-kit model for review. Rack height alone does not prove a server will fit. Rail compatibility and cable clearance depend on the chassis and rack arrangement; use the equipment manufacturer’s installation documentation.
- List chassis and component serial numbers in a private inventory.
- Confirm the required rails, fasteners, power leads and network connections.
- Record the drive layout and label components without exposing credentials.
- Run your pre-shipment hardware and boot checks while the machine is still accessible.
- Take an independent data backup and test that you can access it.
- Pack using the manufacturer’s transport guidance and confirm the receiving reference before dispatch.
Prepare the first remote login
Agree how the operating system and management interface will receive their network settings. Keep credentials separate from the box and communicate them only through the approved secure process. Record who can authorize a power cycle or installation change.
If encrypted storage requires an unlock after reboot, decide how you will provide that through the available console. A successful boot at your desk does not prove the system can recover unattended in a remote rack.
Check the installation handover
After installation, compare the visible hardware inventory with your records, confirm network access and verify the intended drives are present. Run an application-level check and agree how spare packaging or components will be stored or returned.
Receiving, storage and remote-hands terms vary by facility and service. The external shipping reference is an example of why advance coordination matters; follow EnderHost’s instructions for your actual order.
Prepare the network handoff and write a clear remote-hands request for any installation work.
